Well I have a 36 GB NTFS partition where windows xp is installed...I want to convert this partition to the FAT 32 file system so I could also install windows 98 on another partition...I clicked on convert it starts converting then it gives me the error message "Data is compressed or scarsed"...if anyone knows what this means and how it can be fixed plz reply in this thread.

This seems to be a fairly common error. The suggested solution by PowerQuest is to create the set of bootable rescue diskettes, and try it from them with a DOS boot so that XP is not in control of the drive.

Read about error here

It would also be wise if you ran CHKDSK /F from "dos prompt safe mode."

Also, why convert the entire drive to FAT32 if all you want is FAT32 just for Win98? (unless you are not going to use Win2K or XP) Running an entire large drive as FAT32 is not really what I would recommend...

Actually, Win98 can't see ANY NTFS drive or partition (no matter of size). I was talking about there is no need to convert and entire drive if all you want to do is install Win98. You can always create a shared FAT32 partition so Win98 and XP can use and see both.
