Hi all

I have a 160 GB HDD by Maxtor and i find it hard to partition it under Windows XP. I tried FDISK with it only recognising 40 GB of it and Partition Magic closes with errors after rebooting. Can anyone help?

Also I would like to dual boot Windows XP with Xandros or Red Hat. Would anyone know whether Xandros can dual boot?

Thanks in advance :)

Check out this review of the GParted LiveCD. You're able to create and resize ntfs partitions with it. Hasn't failed me yet. :)

Make sure to grab the latest version.

Oh and yeah, Xandros is able to dual boot. Xandros seems like one of the best operating systems for a transition from linux to windows, but I believe it costs money. It looks like its worth it, if you're willing to spend money. Red Hat is really only for corporate and enterprise users, but they sponsor a community based distro called Fedora. I heard its quite stable. Haven't personally used it before though. If you're interested in other linux distributions catered to the desktop, take a look at Ubuntu and Suse.

As tp the partition if you have xp with sp1 you simply change the size of the partition when you install windows.
It will come upo with a partition of 137gb, simply delete this partition and choose the full partition from the following menus.

I actuslly got my copy from a british mag called "Linux User" and its review was exacltly as above. So u could imagine my surprise when i saw it in a computer store going for $35 :)

Anyways. I am only keeping Windows because of its support for games. Is there an emulator or something like that so that games like Morrowind can be played on a linux box?

This is my system:

Intel 845G chipset m/b with integrated sound and graphics(Intel Extreme II)
P4 3.2 Ghz
160Gb Maxtor
1GB RAM (Kingston)
Sony DVD/CD-RW
Asus DVD

haha its your basic pc from Dell
