Partial install of XP service pack 3 - I think

A friend of mine says that she downloaded the XP Service Pack 3, but did not install it. I did not know that this option was available.

My questions:

Where would I look to see if she had indeed performed the install, I know Windows keeps a history of updates?

If she could have performed a download only, where would I find that downloaded file?

the way to see if it is installed is go into control panel and add/remove programs if you click show updates at the top it should list windows xp service pack 3.
the partial download could be the automatic updates download which will install at a specified time, or when you go to turn off the computer depending on what settings the automatic updates are set too. the downloads are stored in the folder under windows called SoftwareDistribution
