I'm going to be going for my MBA in manhattan and I want to move out of my place on Staten Island into the city, I was wondering if I could take out a student loan on my housing even though i'm going part time..... getting rid of my lease will be the bigger problem :-\
and to answer your question, if you take a private student loan then yes, if you take a federally subsidized then no because i believe they disperse the funds directly to the school

I believe this is the case. IIRC, I had a friend do something similar (not quite rent but pay for a used car or something to that effect). Manhattan rent is pretty expensive though. Just a small studio could run you $12-15K a year, depending on the neighborhood. That said, Staten Island is a tough commute though. I did it every day for four years going to high school, many, many (many!) years ago.
