part time job problem

I've just recently been hired as a cook at a local place, and i can't be happier no absences whatsoever, never been late, etc. It's been about a month.

Well prior to this week, I had no schedule conflicts. Our weekly schedule came out on saturday, and the conflicting dates were just announced or made aware to me just this morning.

*My all-state band tryout was shifted from today to tomorrow, a day i'm scheduled to work.
*Our playoff game, instead of friday, is now saturday, yet another day i work.

I don't know how to go about telling them. I'm scared of being canned. I called tonight to see if anyone could work for me tomorrow, with no avail. The manager sounded kinda ticked and told me to call back tomorrow. I haven't even mentioned saturday to them yet. So please AT, what do i need to do ?

I would say your manager/boss is an asshole. They usually cut some slack when it's school oriented. Apparently not in your case.

welll... you could be canned but i was just canned at my job and the upside is that there is this thing called defamation of character where the past employer cannot release any info about you being fired to another employer..

You could find another job at a different place if canned... or you could try to pay one of your coworkers for their time working so it's worth it to them to work

Tell them you have school stuff to attend that was switched at the last minute...nothing you can do.
