Why don't they just give their rich people another tax cut! That'll increase revenue!

Or maybe Puerto Rico should invade some country!

This is not the failure of Democracy. It can't fail since there is no Democracy.

This is the byproduct of those in the background who impose the finger puppet leadership on us that makes this happen. I'm not speaking of any one regime. Be that US, Iran, China or otherwise.

If you want to start the blame game you have to sit down and start writing a list and that list, if you start writing today, won't end until sometime tomorrow.

It's a house of cards. They are wedged so far into society that you would need to burn them out like a tick. Since the finger puppets are the ones with the lighters we will never get rid of them.

All so an elite few, relatively speaking, can be rich and powerful on the backs of those less fortunate to be born under them.

Funny how people can be so passive to the injustice served on them so openly. Too much flouride in your water maybe? Try dinking less tap water and drink more bottled water before it too gets banned or flourinated.

Ignorance is bliss.

Puerto Rico, unofficial 52nd State (after Iraq at 51st)

Who we be

In a Parallel Universe, their president would be Steve Bridges

Technically no it is not america.
Although it has been proposed many times. The citizens of Puerto Rico have elected to not become the 51st state and maintain thier exsisting form of Government.

From the article It appears that the Govenor is trying to make the hard choice to put them back in the black ,but the legislative body, doesn't have the guts to pass something unpopular.
Sounds like half the populace is working for the government, talk about a recipie for disaster..Govt by definition is inefficient.

I would suggest they start growing more sugar cane ...I hear ethanol is fetching a mighty high price these days.

I wouldn't be suprized if President Bush didn't make the push for this to become East Texas.

Natural resources: Potential for onshore and offshore oil

Religions: Roman Catholic 85%, Protestant and other 15%

Exports - commodities: chemicals, ..., rum, ...

And the kicker

Puerto Rico is saddled with a $740 million budget shortfall

This sounds like President Bush's wet dream.

:)

Puerto Rico is Puerto Rico's largest employer. 80% of their budget is salary.

Disgusting waste of money.

Any government is only as good as those that are elected to it and/or work for it. Same as anything in life. Garbage in garbage out my friend.

What has happened today in Puerto Rico is coming to America if we don't get rid of the tax cut and spend neo-cons.
