"And thus . . . . in November, 2008 . . . the Great Penryn Culture of the LGA775 plains finally came to an end. The tribes of 775 motherboards were herded into reservations . . . and the modern era of i7 Nehalem began, as the beaten-down minions of Penryn lived on only in legend . . . "

WFYB.

[Whatever floats your boat. :D ]

But I see the "end" coming. DDR2 will be Deadasa Doornail Retro. No more LGA775.

We should start a pool and bet on when the Conroes and Penryns will cease to be offered at the Egg, or will only be shown as "On Backorder."

[And it may be "The Last of the Mohicans," but this E8600 -- I gotta say it -- IFC . . . In-Freakin-Credible.]

Some hints here...

You'll notice that none of the Wolfdales and none of the mainstream Yorkfields are on that list.

Right. Basically after... how long? A year? 65nm chips are finally out for pasture. Extreme Edition chips tend to die off quick anyways, as only the "best" can be an EE part and the socket 775 will no longer be the "best."

I'd say... declining availability starting a year from this upcoming mass extinction.

Honestly, I'm surprised that the E6x50's haven't already had been EOL'd. I was expecting the announcement of their EOL about 6 months sooner. And the E21xo's are no surprise either, since the E5x00's are already in the channel.

Do my eyes deceive me or is Q6600 not on that EOL list?

Oh . . . . Bury my heart at wounded EE.

Interesting point about that Q6600, though.

Way-ull. Ah got two spares -- one in each holster.

I think the presence of all the new chips actually makes selling off older stock that much harder for newegg at least. Say 9 months from now. so mid next year for newegg. Intel's not like AMD, keep on selling X2s for years and years to no end.
