- Intro:

'Parkitect is a simulation game where you get to build a successful theme park! Design roller coasters, install shops and thrill rides, and top it all off with incredible scenery and dynamic landscapes. Management is key: you'll have to look after employees, resources, and park infrastructure. Fail at that and face the consequences! Unhappy cashiers might annoy guests, unhappy custodians will leave your park a mess, and unhappy ride maintenance teams will leave your guests a mess.'

- What can you do?

-- Build and manage unique theme parks
-- Design and build your own rollercoasters
-- Hire staff and fulfill their needs so they keep the park maintained and operating smoothly
-- Build an efficient transport infrastructure to ensure the shops in your park don't run out of stock
-- Maintain the Illusion by hiding the 'behind the scenes' parts of the park using scenery
-- Upgrade the park with advanced systems and transit options

Unfortunately they decided to announce this after RCT4.
I would rather wait for RCT4 and see what it's like rather than go for a Kickstarter on an unknown unproven theme park game that might never come out.
Or just buy the older games on GoG.com

Yeah, bad timing on their part. If RCT4 weren't announced I would probably take interest in this.

Damn, the conundrum. Now that I've given up on Atari and will be passing on RCT4, this is intriguing.

On the other hand, I still abhor Kickstarter and Early Access games, where I'm expected to pay for an unfinished product, with no real promise of a finished product's eventual existence. Plus, I have to wait a year to find out how bad the EA will be? Yuck.

I guess I'll just pray that ScreamRide is decent on the Bone.

Why are you passing on RCT4? I didn't even know about it. I loved 1, 2 and 3. Can't wait to see what they do with this one.

Just not a fan of Atari's anymore. Rather not get into a philosophical debate as to why, because I tend to know that my opinions on such things don't invite polite conversation.

I am not passing on RCT, that is for certain! I put off RCT3 for so long, because I was put off by other isometric 2D games that made the switch to full 3D. Finally broke down and bought it and loved it more than 1 or 2.

I will be skipping this game, at least until it comes out. I refuse to use any crowd funding or early access stuff. Worst business model ever, at least from a consumer perspective. I'm sure as a developer getting a ton of investment without any liability is great, though.

Roll Out The Coasters: Parkitect

By Adam Smith on June 20th, 2015 at 10:00 am

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/06/20/parkitect-management-game/

"it does have gorgeous isometric rollercoasters and looks like the closest thing to Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 since Rollercoaster Tycoon 2. Kickstarted last year, it’s due to release in August and I want it now."

"I don’t have a new video for you but the development blogs[1] are updated weekly and packed with insights about building a game about building a theme park."

User comment by alleged developer "Sebioff":

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/06/20/parkitect-management-game/comment-page-1/#comment-1942783

"Hi! One of the developers here.

Ultimately, the idea is to take the elements from some games we liked as the basis and build upon that - obviously there’s some RCT and Theme Park, but also some Theme Hospital, Prison Architect, Settlers...some of what we do is more like an improvement of what others have done before us (more flexible coaster builder, G-force visualizations, transport rides that are actually used as transport rides, staff needs), but we’re also putting in lots of ideas in that we haven’t seen anywhere else (behind the scenes areas of the park used by staff to resupply shops and transport trash, giving scenery an actual purpose by using it to hide the behind the scenes areas).

Since we’re in the middle of development (around alpha state) not all of this is done yet and of course it remains to be seen how succesful we can make it work, but the goal is definitely not to end up with a mere RCT/Theme Park HD :)"

The newest RCT, which is what I believe Lonyo was referring to, will be called Roller Coaster Tycoon World, and is definitely first in line ahead of this Kickstarter project for my theme park sim dollars...

There's actually RCT4, but it's a mobile title. It kinda looks like Parkitect....

RCT World:

I haven't followed it closely, but I thought it had a lot of developmental issues early on?

Atari fired the original development team and went with a new team, which is why it missed the original planned release date of early this year. They are hoping to start beta testing soon and maybe have it ready for the public later next year.

Parkitect is looking very, very good in the early alpha versions we're getting as original kickstarters.

In it's current state it has a solid base with some key things missing. Building up your park is quite pleasurable and rollercoasters, the crux of any theme park-esque game, are great to build with a plethora of options at your finger tips (even if some stats aren't always showing, like G-forces, speeds etc yet).

I've probably already got my money's worth from the play testing part but I'm trying to hold off for bigger updates so I can enjoy stuff in big chunks :)

Gets my thumbs up.

I want to look into it but I want to make sure I can create an intricate roller coaster that would lead to the death of the passengers just like in RCT3

Looks interesting but quite frankly the last few rollercoaster tycoon games pushed the bar a lot of these kinds of games so I don't see this bettering them, at least not with their current graphics and level of development. I think it's a hard genre to improve upon, but my mind remains open to seeing what they can do. Something I'll look at buying 6-12 months down the line.

IMO the RC options outstrip any RCT game to date.
