ok, i have an unsolved issue.

i went to a beach in south jersey two weekends ago. three friends went along and one of them borrowed his dad's handicapped parking permit. i was told i can park anywhere for free and i felt awkwardly because of course, it was my first time to use that permit.

anyways, i parked at a normal parking lot with a parking meter whining for quarters. two hours later, we came back and i saw a yellow stub sticking in the wiper blades. i knew it was a ticket. after approaching closer to the car, i pulled the ticket out and checked to see what i was wrongdoing. it said it was a fault at parking (not following the policies on curb, i was probably blocking a sidewalk.) it also said my parking meter was expired.

my friend looked lost and later became outraged. i didn't know what to do with the handicapped parking permit. he is having his dad (he's in a wheelchair) to waive the ticket by telling them he borrowed my car.

so, here's my question, when having a handicapped parking permit, can i park anywhere? (suppose i'm handicapped.)

p.s. four of us are deaf which considered us people with disabilities.

actually kinda does. with a handicapped parking permit you can park anywhere (long as it is legal to park in that spot) also with a permit you do not have to pay meters.

of course this is what i know about IL not sure on NJ.

but no you are not supposed to loan them out. if you get caught the guy who has the permit can lose it and get fined (i believe)

from what i understand, you can park in a metered spot for free with the permit only if there are no handicapped spots available.

it is illegal to use the permit if it is not your permit.

you parked illegally. pay your ticket.

The only thing a handicapped parking permit allows you to do is park in parking spots that are meant for parking, but marked for handicapped use only. It's not a park-your-ass-wherever-you-feel-like license.

Idiocy abound. A handicapped parking tag entitled you to handicapped parking spaces, nothing more, especially not at-will parking wherever the fsck you please.
Also being handicapped doesn't mean you don't have to pay a parking meter. Even handicapped people earn/receive money.

NJ handicap laws

?? Striped access aisles adjacent to handicapped parking
?? New York City streets, unless one has a NYC permit
?? Parking meters without depositing a coin
?? Parking meters beyond a 24 hour period
Remember: Handicapped parking permits and plates
used solely by the person with the qualifying disability,
punishable fines of at least $250. If someone who
have a disability uses another person?s permit or
Motor Vehicles Commission or issuing locality may
permit of plates or deny renewal.

so yes you can park in a meter lot without paying. but it has to be alagel spot and you have to have the permit.

since you did not have the permit good luck fighting it

actually wrong. with the handicap permit you do not need to pay for metered parking.

also if you are handicap you can get a state id with the P2 (permanent disability) marking witch has a bunch of other stuff. such as it is a hunting/fishing license, entrance into state parks and a few other perks.

it is also against the law to give the permit to someone else. in fact it is a $250 fine and the handicap sticker can be revoked from whoever has it legally.

if i was the OP i would just pay it.

Permanent disability is a hunting/fishing license?

:Q

I can't see Dude in a motorized wheelchair wheelin through the forest with a rifle in his arms. Besides, they should apply for hunting/fishing license each year like everyone else.

heh yeah.

with the P2 card you can also get a doctor to help you get "help" hunting. such as a crossbow (have yet to figure that out) and special hunting times. also many fishing areas have setups for people with disablities.
