Does anyone know of a partitioning program that is free? I know there is the demo of partition magic but it wont let me do anything just lets me go through the steps then wont finish.

PQ has patents on the partitioning, I don't know of any legit freeware/shareware due to this.

On partitioning a drive? I think not. MAybe on the way it can move and resize partitions, but not partitioning itself.
My favorite program is the good old linux fdisk. Not as easy to use as some but very fast and powerful once you get used to it. One of these days I'll get around to making a linux boot disk with utilities such as this so I'll never have to touch DOS fdisk again.
Damascus, I never took a liking to cfdisk. Same with the graphical ones that ship with linux installers. I tried using the graphical one with a recent Mandrake 8.1 install and it wouldn't let me specify an exact size...I wanted 20MB partition, give or take a little, but the slider would only let me pick 7MB or 133MB. WTF. Dropped to a VC and ran fdisk.
I swear earlier MDK releases had a field where you could type the size, in addition to the sliders.

The original poster refered to PowerQuest, I presume (and he can correct this if I'm wrong) that he is indeed looking to move and resize partitions.

Partition Commander can do the same things Partition Magic can do accept Partition Commander actually works !

I'm beginning to hate PM with a passion. PM7 and 7.01 both lock up in WinXP ( fresh install of XP and PM, too!! :|). Worked fine in 98. *sigh* No partitioning for me, although I'll look into Partition Commander.
PM works just fine with my XP...

Why would you even try to do advanced partitioning insize of XP? I've always used the DOS executables and never had a single lockup.

That's interesting, I'm pretty sure there's a Linux-based resize utility that I can't think of right now. I know certain filesystems have their own resize tools seperate from the partition info, like xfs_growfs, ext2resize, resizereiserfs, etc.

You actually can run partition commander from a floppy disc and don't need it installed on the computer itself, this comes in handy for new machines and friends machines.
