parents: would you mind if your kids ocassionally smoked weed??

i'm serious here, my parents are really strick about it AND I MEAN REALLY STRICT. but when we all go to my friends house, he comes to pick me up, calls his parents on the way to his house, tells them we are gonna smoke there and for his parents to order a few pizzas and get some beer. and his parents are TOTALLY fine with that. if i had kids, i wouldn't really care if they smoked
I know quite a few people with straightedge parents that would kick their ass if they found out that their kid smoked weed, and I also know some people with parents that would occasionally ask for a hit.

My parents are the latter. You know, the cool, reasonable, your friend type of parents. The way all parents should be when their kids are in their mid-late teens.
No, I would not mind. Of course, it would depend on the situation, and of course, the age.. but in general, no.
my parents are cool and all and i am thankful for everything they do for me, but i dont see why they have to be soo strict. the thing is about a MILLION people who know them have told he they have never tried it either. whenever we talk about similar issues (NEVER this one, i'll never tell them i smoke), they say you'll think differently when you are a parent. i'm pretty sure my outlook on this topic in particular will not change. i just dont see what the big deal is. weed basically has the same short term effects as alcohol so i don't know why they are so uptight about it

Are you just assuming? I have a friend that was like that. She thought her parents would KILL her if they found out.

my parents said if they ever found out i smoke cigarettes (which i dont), they will kick me out of the house. but here is the funny thing that nobody believes: BOTH my parents found my bong in my room, AND THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A VASE!!! it's sitting on the kitchen table right now with flowers in it. my friends ALWAYS ask about it when they come over. i need to borrow a digital camera to get a pic....
My mom doesnt really care, she allways tells me stories of her hippy days. Pretty funny stuff. I used to do it but recently i wen cold turkey just for the hell of it and its fine with me. A couple of my friends though, thats another story. They dont think they can have fun without it so it really pisses me off. I told my dad I did it a ong time ago. Then he asked me and i told him yes (I guess he forgot) and he acted really disapointed for like the next 3 hours. O well his problem.
i think if my parents had tried it, they wouldn't be so opposed to it.

Uh, I dont think your parents are that stupid. Not wanting you to smoke cigarettes, and not wanting you to smoke pot are two totally different things. I think if you're old enough you should sit down and talk to them about it. Whats the worst that will happen? If you tell them that you're not into other drugs, you dont smoke cigarettes, and smoking pot is just a recreational thing for you, they might just allow it. However, you should get a job if you don't have one already, so they know they're not paying for it.

I'd tell them my side of things and how I tried it and stopped because of how it made me feel. I'd obviously urge them not to, especially since it's illegal. But in the end, I can't stop them from doing it, and I'd want them to be open about it with me. It's ultimately their choice and by me just getting mad and saying "no, don't do that" will just encourage them to just do it behind my back :disgust: and I'd rather not have that happen. If they let it get out of hand though and were constantly burnouts, I'd tell them how disappoinded I was that they let it get that way. There has to be some reponsability and moderation, that's the way you control it and not let it get the best of you. If they could handle it that way and use it very seldomly, I guess I wouldn't *mind* it per se, but I'd rather not have it happen altogether.
As a parent, and an ex-hashaloic, I would perfer that younger teenagers did not start pot. In my experiance it is a real killer to motivation, also it is very nice..., this combination makes it difficult to maintain interest in much else once you start. Of my 4 kids (25yr oldest son to 9 yr old daughter) none have experimented (to my knowledge) I would not mind if it was held to moderation (Several times a month) but am knowledgeable enough to know just how hard it would be to maintain that useage level for long. Several times a month turns into once a week, which turns into, several times a week which turns into daily etc. For a teenager in school, daily use is to much.
I personally believe that pot should be put on the same legal status as alcohol or even perhaps cigerettes. It is certianally less harmful then either.
Yes if you smoked 2 packs a day of joints you would have health problems, if you smoked 20 joints a day you would have trouble functioning as a human being, it is sort of self limiting.
BTW: I currently am not smoking, but would not pass on a hit if offered.

Why do pot smokers always have to go "well if you tried it..."? It may feel great but sometimes your reasons for being against something actually have some depth behind them and won't be swayed just because it might be really fun.
Yes I would mind as a parent since I don't think its good for children. If you're still living in your parents house you probably should be devoting your attention toward school, work, getting exercise, etc and I don't think pot helps that. If they're going to do it, they're going to do it, but I would let them know I would disapprove.
I wouldn't like it completely but I wouldn't mind that much if it was just every now and then. I was permastoned for about two years and I came out of it none the worse. I'm sure I made some dumb decisions durring that time but I've learned alot from my bad decisions too. I plan on never having kids though so I won't get a chance to see what I'd do.
hahaha, you need to get pics stat!
It's going to be bad when some of your parent's more experienced friends come over and ask why they have a bong as a vase.
