COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- A couple fighting about which gang their 4-year-old toddler should join caused a public disturbance that resulted in the father's arrest, Commerce City police said Thursday.

On Saturday, Joseph Manzanares stormed into the Hollywood Video store where his girlfriend worked, threatened to kill her and knocked over several video displays and even a computer, Commerce City police Sgt. Joe Sandoval said.

After he ran out of the store, police were called and the 19-year-old was arrested at his home.

His girlfriend told police that they had been arguing about the upbringing of their son and which gang he should belong to. The teen mother, who is black, is a member of the Crips. Manzanares is Hispanic and belongs to the Westside Ballers gang, the woman said.

"They have different ideas on how the baby should be raised. Basically, she said they cannot agree on which gang the baby would 'claim,'" Sandoval said.

Manzanares was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, and domestic violence. He was transported to the Adams County Detention Facility.

On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to a year of probation. The misdemeanor harassment charge was dropped.

I'm not up on my "gang etiquette" but isn't breaking some sort of rule to fraternize with members of the opposite gang?

You know, I initially had the same reaction. But then I thought about it, and there has been a lot of stress in my house deciding if we want to baptise our daughter and if we do, under what denomination.

At a very fundamental level, it's really no different than this article.

There are basically two alliances with which all gangs are aligned. Because they are different gangs doesn't mean they are different sides of the alliance.

People vs. Folk

Serious question because I honestly have no clue on this - are the "Bloods" and "Crips" basically the two "parent" alliances that you describe?

And then all other "chartered" gangs for a lack of better term pledge allegiance to one or the other?

The 19 year old will be a grandfather by the time he's 28. Provided he and the kid live that long that is.

Bloods are people nation Allied

Crips are Folk Nation Allied

This is a general rule of thumb. Some Local sects may actually have cooperative arrangements with what would be rival gangs in other areas of the country.

I say they follow the logic of GTA and have their son join the COPS. Most ruthless and hardcore gang in San Andreas.

This is funny is a sad kind of way.
I think I'll go with both of these.

It's so nice that they want better things for their kid. I think if he had the capability of having any rational sense of what worthless trash his parents were, he'd ask to be disowned immediately. That, or he'd burn down the house, ensuring that his parents' bedroom door was thoroughly sealed shut.

What worthless wastes of resources and life.

Wow.

Is child services not able to take this kid away from these idiots and find a better home for him?
