Parents, what games do you allow your children to play?

For the parents, what games do you allow your children to play? For example, would you let your 5 year old play Counter Strike? How about GTA series? What about your 8 year old? Do you go by the game ratings, or do you worry about the specific game themselvges (Such that CS is ok, but GTA series wouldnt be).

Just curious what everyone does with kids and games.

In my experience working at a games store most parents watch what their kids play but a lot don't really care - it's usually a 60/40 split, I'd say. A lot of the time the rationale is "they'd see worse on TV or at the movies," or "I can't control what their friends play, and that's what they usually play, so why bother trying to control it?"

My brother beat Half-life when he was 7, GTA III and Vice City when he was 8, and Doom 3 when he was 9. He's 10 now and all he plays are roms...

so when he's 12 will he be playing with your "Fleshlight"?

i've played mortal kombat since i was 8 and i turned out to be a geek just like the rest of y'all... didn't go shoot up my school or try to kick my teachers in the nuts...

violence in video games owns, screw ratings.

I played a lot of violent games when I was little. Besides games taught me a lot of stuff like driving manual(nfsu), how to reload a gun, etc.

Pointing and firing a gun off the screen does not reload a gun in real life. 😉

i cant friggin believe parents bying their kids games like GTA: San Andreus and games like that. i tell them not to buy it for them but they still do. when i used to work at gamestop, all these parents would buy kids all the most violent games, then of course when their kid kills someone, they will blame the game for their poor parenting

A friend of mine (former teacher/drumline instructor actually) lets his 9 year old (he may be 10, 11 now...it's all kind of a blur) play UT2004, but only against bots and not on servers. I didn't notice if he turned the gore settings down or not.

As for myself...I for the most part could play whatever I wanted. I got Duke Nukem 3D a few months after it came out (in 1996; I was 12 at the time and my brother was 10). My mom didn't really know much about computers anyway, so I doubt she could have really kept anything from us if she wanted to...
