My folks are on a 28k win modem with AOL.
My sister's computer has been broken for over a year, no ISP.
Mom can't even open e-mail attachments at work, and the computer tech people give her the run around... her mail client and browser are old old Netscape versions.
It gets frustrating at times. Especially when I suggest they upgrade. They look at me like I am absolutelt nuts, and say, "The computer is brand new! We just bought it a few years ago."

same problem with mine, they have had this same lame 15" monitor for over 6 years now and the brightness is totalyy gone now, i have been telling them to get a new one with no luck, so i cranked the resolution up and the monitor wouldnt display anything, so they though it finally broke.....but i just couldnt fool them into buying a new one, i felt too bad, had to turn it back. but some times you have to resort to tricks

Alot of people are like that. I have a hard time keeping a straight face when people tell me they want to use a 10-year old monitor or printer with their system.

It's even better when they get mad and find out that they can't put a 5 1/4 inch floppy or the RAM from their 386 into their new PC.

My parents never took me seroiusly when I said anything about computers... well I got a job, made some cash, built my own and have it running extremely well. Their pre-builts, however, are not doing so well. I told them I wouldn't give any free tech support because they wouldn't like what I had to say. Well, they don't like what I have to say when something goes wrong, but now they at least deal with it.

Its hard having ignorant folks, espically when they think your the one being ignorant. It happens. I'm looking forward to moving out. ;)

I think what really burns me is the computer tech folks who, instead of helping my mom get pictures I send her in e-mail, act like it is some exotic unsuported feature. It is... in Netscape version 3.
