Saw this on the local (San Luis Obispo) news this morning...parents signed permission slips for their kids to watch an unnamed PG-rated(EDIT: PG-13) movie at Atascadero High School. The movie turned out
to be "The Fast and the Furious". Now the parents are furious..."totally inappropriate", etc. Seems like the parents should have asked what the movie would be before signing the slips
While it certainly wasn't one of the greatest works ever filmed, I don't think the movie was "totally inappropriate" for high-schoolers....certainly, the number of 'ricers' has exploded in town since
the original airing of that movie. Now they want action taken against the teacher, etc. What do y'all think?

The parent's didn't ask what movie it was?

While it's not the most educational movie, I don't really see a problem with it. I watched worse when I was in school. :)

What is inappropriate about that movie at all? It's only PG... anyone in high school should be able to handle that movie.

LOL they needed a permission slip to watch a PG movie in high school! LOL OMG that is funny, I have watched so many movies in HS that were rated R and no one said anything and were even approved by the VP

Why did the teacher show the movie? What was his rationale for showing it? Was it a part of class or just a time-killing thing?

Just curious, because I'm sure the movie doesn't have too much educational value.

If parents are going to complain, they should have checked first what movie might be shows. Although i don't find the movie inapropriate for high schoolers, serves the parents right for being so ignorant.

In my high school, we watched movies after finals were over in certain classes. The classes were scheduled for 90 minutes, but in some classes we either didn't have a final, or the final was completed ahead of time. In those classes we watched movies as a generosity from the teachers for being good students during the semester.

They picked it because some kid brought it in to class and asked if we could watch a movie. Since marking was done for the semester the teacher let us (unfortunately).

If anything, the teacher should be fired for wasting taxpayer dollars and students' time. Not for showing an "inappropriate" movie.

Yeah, give them busy work that doesn't count for anything instead.

That was on the news today? LOL I had no idea. I'll have to catch it later if I remember to tune in. I can't really imagine all the folks up in A-town being that uptight.

That's nothing. A substitute teacher at our school showed American Pie in one class. He hasn't taught here ever since though. Man that guy had balls.
