Parents smoke in the house, anyway I can keep it out of my room?

I think my chronic dry/red eyes are affected by my parents smoking in the house since I was young, and they still do it (I'm 21). It really hit me today at work when my boss was like "Jason, how long have you smoked?" And I explained that I have never smoked, but my parents do.

Then he was like "that's really odd, because you actually smell heaviest of smoke, moreso than other people who work here, and they actually smoke themselves, not their parents."

What can I do to help keep the smoke out? I sleep on the top floor, they smoke all afternoon on the middle floor when they get home from work (4 or 5pm).

I'm assuming I should keep my door closed at all times and maybe keep a fan going in the room? I don't have a ceiling fan, just a floor one.

move out of your parents house!

put fans blowing out in the other rooms that they smoke in or goto a hardware store and ask someone for door sealing information.

You'll never seal it out.... trust me. All you can really do is live on a lower floor than the smoker. I had this problem in my apartment building with a smoker below us. We ended up having a discussion and now they smoke in a certain area that doesn't effect our apartment. Our apartment would actually get a haze in it from the smoke, it was that bad.

Seal your room and pressurize it to just above ambient. It'll be like living in a big biohazard suit.

Would it be more healthy if I simply slept downstairs (lower level than where they smoke)? The downstairs also has an air purifier, so that may help too.

I lived in a house with smoking roommates once. Trust me, there's not much you can do. Just move out with a couple of friends.

We live in a tri-level home, the downstairs is the family room with the TV/entertainment system, etc. There would be no way for me to move in down there, but I could sleep there if I wanted to and if it would be better. I may start doing that.

Armatron, what does 21 have to do with it? I'm in school and I work full time. I'm going to deal with my parents and free, just trying to figure out a decent way to keep smoke out of my room upstairs so my eyes don't turn get stressed so much.

Close your door and keep a huge box fan in your window blowing into the room

hey, you don't want to move out financially, that is fine.
and you can't ask them to stop smoking cause it is there house.
can you sleep with your window opened slighty? and a fan might help.

I'm taking 15 hours of classes and work 40 hours a week.... I'm 19. If I can do it, then you can do it.
