Parents out there...

Topic Title: Parents out there...
Topic Summary: What would it take for you to give up on your child?

Hard to say IMO; I don't have children, but I refuse to give up on friends if that helps a bit.

Sad question.

My youngest son has been in a residential program in the past. (I retained custody, however.)

He has Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Asperger's Syndrome.

I suppose I'd realize at a certain point whether he was destined to be an bad person. That's something you can generally tell about somebody if you are good at reading people, some people are just rotten. I'd hope I'd be able to raise a righteous person, but if not...

My dad never neglected to tell me that if I struck either of them (especially my mother) I would find myself in an orphanage by that night. I don't know, I would never tell my kid that-- especially one that never showed any violent tendencies or the like. But hey, whatever.
