You have no answer for me on your poll. I love all of them, my wife and two kids, more than anyone would ever know and would give my life in a second for any of them.

fictitious scenario:
your home is on fire. everyone is trapped in the same room. you can only save ONE. who is it gonna be?

That's not really the best scenario. The pragmatic approach would be to save the child, regardless of feelings. They have more life ahead of them, so there's more to be gained by saving them.

so you're making the choice logically instead of emotionally. that works for some but not everyone.

I'm just saying your setup isn't the best. My daughter comes first regardless, but with your particular situation, arguments can be made that don't take personal feelings into account.

I think it's kids.
It's a natural survival instinct to care for your offspring. I think we're hardwired to love our kids more when it comes to truly picking one over the other. Why do you think all the divorcees fight for their kids?

your home is on fire. everyone is trapped in the same room and unconscious except you. you can only save ONE. (assume you broke your arm and it's in a sling and you can't move it. house will collapse after you make it out with one).
who is it gonna be?

aren't there animals who will sacrifice themselves for their children?
I thought I remembered studying that in college bio... genetic altruism or something.

Can I save the wife and kid and sacrifice myself?
