Parents! At what age is it appropriate to give your kids chocolate milk?

shortylickens

No Lifer
I only ask because I saw a vid on the internet and it appears some parents are giving chocolate milk to babies just under one year old.

Normal milk around one year, so chocolate milk the same. But chocolate milk contains lots of sugar, so just like juice and lemonade it should only be given in small amounts and not on a daily basis.

We have made hot chocolate twice this winter, and our girls at 2 and 3 years got two small cups and our girl at 11 months got ½ a cup at each occasion.

Our kids gets water and milk every day and maybe a small soft drink 1-2 times a month (except for the little one).

No more than 3 gallons of chocolate milk should be eaten in a year even by adults.

The stores usually load it up on the sugar and the taste is tempting yet overwhelming. I'll drink it down fast but I don't want to buy it again for months.

I can't remember. Maybe around 5 or 6? Oh, and Ovaltine or GTFO, and not that n00by chocolate only Ovaltine either. It has to be malt, or chocolate malt.

I suppose those are the same parents that will be giving them Mountain Dew in another year or two.
One time I was in Hooters about 1AM and I saw a big family dining there. About four toddlers were with them.
I asked the waitress about it and she said they were all drinking Mountain Dew.

As a parent I have no idea. I think only my oldest has had a few times. Every once and awhile she convinces herself again that she likes hot chocolate and I make her a cup so I can dump it out. She doesn't like hot chocolate, to hot I think.

I remember when I was a kid everyone thought it was a bit odd I didn't really like chocolate milk. I like it OK as an adult but basically never drink it because I hardly drink milk in general.

My kids are retards (6yo/8yo). They don't like soda, juice and all kinds of other stuff. It makes no goddamned sense. They just started liking chocolate milk maybe a year ago. Same for hot chocolate. I might need to scrap the program and start over from scratch.

They are wise children who will save themselves dental bills.

Wiser than I was. I loved my chocolate milk and artificial grape Jolly Ranchers. Luckily, my mom hardly ever bought sodas or the like and never a single Jolly Rancher.

I've always hated bread though.

As near as I can tell my kids will only eat PB&Js, chips, cookies and chocolate. There is much moaning to even get them to eat such exotic foods as chicken nuggets, tatter tots or pizza. I don't give them juice often, they'd just dump it on the carpet.

You hate...bread? Even garlic bread?

Yeah I get the picky eating thing, but not liking liquid chocolate? They like chocolate. They like milk. They like chocolate ice cream. They like melted chocolate ice cream. They didn't like chocolate milk...you can't explain that.

My youngest eats the nutella snack pack that comes with cookie sticks. But if I give him nutella on toast it's no go 🙄

Yeah, there's no consistency. Dinosaur chicken nuggets? "Too spicy"...BBQ chips "I ate the whole bag while you were in the can".

Used to drink it all the time as a kid, don't really remember what age I started. I was never a huge fan of chocolate milk you can make at home but it was readily available so it was better than nothing. Ex: Nestle Quick. But the stuff they gave you at greasy spoon restaurants was the best. I doubt it was even real milk or real chocolate, but damn it was good stuff!

Yeah I found restaurant made cherry Coke and vanilla Coke and chocolate milk was so much better than anything mass produced. But I haven't seen a jukebox diner in many years.

Garlic bread is ok but I will not care if I never taste again. It is the salt that seduces, not the bread.

Having a mouth dry and full of crumbs destroying the teeth is not a pleasing feeling.

I love my spaghetti, rice, dumpling wrappers, and wonton wrappers, but the bread is the starch I will not eat unless in "survival mode". The Indianmeal moths will finish it first before I ever touch it.

You crazy, bread is amazing.

In the converse, spaghetti, rice, etc, are all just "meh" fillers to my mouth, adding nothing to the experience.
