My parents are moving to a new house and I'm looking for better boxes and bags than just the standard 2x2 ones and cheaper than plastic bins. I'm also looking for big heavy plastic bags that are like 6 feet tall for carrying soft items like sheets and whatnot.

For bags, go to Home Depot, Lowes, etc, and pick up heavy duty extra large garbage bags, probably going to be colored black.

For boxes, liquor stores are known for giving away their empty boxes, and those are usually solidly made boxes. Failing that, Home Depot again, they sell boxes.

Have any friends that work for a hospital? They are usually throwing out cardboard boxes by the truckload on a daily basis. That's where most of my moving boxes have come from the last couple moves.

Also - laundry baskets work great for moving things too. They are sturdier than cardboard, have better handles, and can be returned if you don't need them and they are in decent shape.

For bigger bags, look at contractor garbage bags. they are close to 4' tall, durable, and inexpensive.

Cash & Carry or Smart & Final restaurant supply.

although they've gotten touchier about giving away boxes. you just do your grocery shopping an item at a time - buy a bag of frozen cheese ravioli, take some boxes. buy some bananas, take more boxes.

or you could go on a big-@$$ Newegg shopping spree !
