Pardon my stupidity... But I have a quick power supply question

Its been a few years since my last build (I stopped building right before SATA became popular)

I have my dad's old system right now running as a file/orb server. Its an ECS K75SA mobo w/ an Athlon 1600+ cpu and two IDE drives (CDRW & HD).

I've been sick of how noisy the whole thing is, so I went ahead and purchased a new case w/ 120mm fans & am about to order a new power supply (likely the Corsair 550vx as it seems to get rave reviews and is quiet).

This brings me to my question - Do modern power supplies work with older motherboards and components like mine? (with the old fashioned white molex connectors for power)

I plan to upgrade the mobo/cpu shortly, but would like the PS to work on my old components as well in the meantime.

Thanks in advance!

They have not changed from using Molex connectors. PSU's still come with plenty of them.

And the 24-pin has 4-pins that break away, so it will work in a motherboard with 20-pin main connectors.

Rock on! Thanks!

Is there anything else I should consider for quiet reliable operation? With the GC coupon, the 550vx is $45ar.

Actually, the Corsair tx650w is only $52ar for me. Think i might just go for that one instead

One last Q if I may, what about the HX520 for $17 more? ($69ar)

Its going in a really small lian-li case, so the less cables the better I suppose.

Thanks guys! Decided to go with the modular hx520 to save a bit on the clutter.

Have a nice night!

Where did you find that deal? I'd like to know, so I can add it to my b-day list, which is coming soon! 🙂

You mean so you can add it to your copy and paste list of Corsair deals that you use in almost every post. 😉

Buy.com, but the rebate ended last night. $24 rebate combined with $20 google checkout discount.

The rebate is still good on the 550vx and hx520
