Pardon My Ignorance for Asking but...

I'll try to make this short, plain, and simple as I can. I have an older P3 1.2 Ghz system (yes, I am saving up for a new one) with an ASUS TUSL2-C motherboard and an ASUS V9280/TD Ti4200 128 meg video card (also 512 megs of RAM). After slightly more than a year my video card was starting to give me fits. At the time I was running Windows '98SE and vertical black lines evenly spaced apart began appearing on the Windows startup screen. Then games would freeze, become disjointed image wise, etc. such as NWN, a game I never had trouble with before. Word documents were becoming impossible to read due to randomly appearing yellow pixels, dotted lines, and broken disjointed lines.

Even in safe mode those lines would appear. So I checked to make sure the card was set properly (it was), I checked the temperature (it was fine); then I had a Certified A+ technician reformat my harddrive, ditch '98 and put XP on it. When XP loaded the driver for my video card many of the issues disappearde BUT yellow pixels were still present and when I played something simple like Hearts dashes of various colors appeared.

Called ASUS tech (love their products; Tech support, however, stinks) and they said to put a new driver in that they highly recommended. But before I did I decided to set my screen resolution from 800x480 to 1024x768 and lo and behold I am getting a clear view! Anybody got any ideas of why my issues suddenly cleared up? I'm trying to learn here. Thanks.

I would say your video card is dying. Don't know why changing resolutions helped, but I'd start looking for a replacement.

Sounds like bad memory on your video card.
I agree. yellow is a really bad color for vga errors try adjusting the ram and core down on the card and make certian the agp voltage is all the way up in bios.
also insure the bios has the agp option vs pci option set as first

How would I go about checking the vga voltage in the Bios, plus making sure the VGA option is first? As for checking it on another rig the same lines came up, but ever since I went to XP those disappeared. I have a feeling that trying to get a replacement from ASUS is going to be a real pain. What do you suggest for a replacement card for my P3 system? The motherboard is rock solid, and I have, as mentioned, 1.2 Ghz chip plus 512 RAM. I want to give this current rig to my wife (who is a teacher) and my children who are in school. Besides XP I have Office 2000 Professional loaded as well. Other than the Vid card this machine can provide all they need for school work, online research, etc. And to think, my previous card was an old Diamond Viper 770 and I never, and I mean never, had an issue with it.

Thanks for all your help; much appreciated.
