"God and the Virgin Mary saved my son, because otherwise he would have tumbled into the water with all the other cars,"

No, lady. Your son saved is own life with quick thinking and a calm head. What is it with people pinning supernatural explanations on simple, already explained occurrences.

It's not even like other, somewhat counterintuitive "miracles" that happen every day.

I guess not. Either that or a typo. Do I have forgiveness, oh great one?

QFT.

OP, can't you accept that some people might believe in a higher power? Is there something wrong with that?

Did anyone else get a Family Guy flashback from when Peter dressed up like the clam?

No, but I got a Family Guy flashback of when Joe got hit skiing or something and stood up and was able to walk, then got hit again and was paralyzed again.

I too would like to thank God and the Virgin for keeping me 1000 miles away from that bridge.

I think it's inappropriate in this situation. It totally ignored any of her son's action and only gave praise to god. How bout we simply praise his quick thinking.

In addition what about god saving the bridge from collapsing. When we make a fault it is ours but when we succeed it is god. Well I don't need god to make me feel like shit do I?

Wow....seriously. Some people are so blindly anti-religion that it is sad. Really is it that bad that she thanked God? HER SON LIVED. How did it hurt you? Why is religion such a threat to you guys? If it is "nothing" as you say it is, you wouldn't even give it the time of day.

Thing is her mom is taking all the credit and awarding it to God

Say you win an athlete competition, and then people say "thank God he won" WTF? YOU won, by YOURSELF, no mystical entities involved, simple

Well, I personally hate people that blindly follow something that they probably haven't put any thought into whatsoever. And it's just like one of the posters above said, anytime something bad happens, it's our fault. If ANYTHING good happens it's all because of god. Give me a fucking break. That man is an inspiration all in his own. Fuck God.

what gets me is when people thank god for winning a sport, or for saving them.

i don't believe god would make joe win a football game over frank. I just think he does not care.

its the person who works hard and dedication (skill helps also heh).

Yes, but of course if her son was the one that said it then it would be ok. I think the OP is just annoyed someone who had nothing to do with the situation (mother) is thanking god for what her son accomplished on his own.

Umm I think the majority of you guys are missing the point. This is something great, positive - someone survived and lived. Yet because of the blind fanaticism for being anti-religious, you take that and trash it. HE LIVED. Who cares if his mom thanks God or not??? Some of you are so anti-religious that anything that could be good is ignored and struck down automatically because of some mention of God.

If he was chosen and "saved" by god, does that mean those that died "had it coming"?

Nonetheless it is great to hear that he made it out alive.
