Most of my irrational paranoia's tend to fade away in time, this ones been clinging to me for almost a couple years now. I don't remember the last time I had a sound sleep...

wha?

Nevermind, I thought you said you dreamt of being murdered.

That sounds like a fairly normal paranoia, but I doubt you can remove it by yourself. See a shrink.

i assume your house etc. is locked. why the fears? if you can deduce that no one can get in, your brain should be okay with the fact that no one is going to jam a 12" blade through your neck while you're sleeping.

 😛

For a couple years now you've been paranoid about getting murdered in your sleep? It hasn't happened in those couple years, why would it happen now? Are you a rich, famous dictator of a third world country? Do you have a bounty on your head? No?

Get some sleep.

For clarification, I think about things like this as well, and I definitely suffer from a bit of insomnia, but there's really no better way to overcome these fears than to simply face them. In this case, sleep with a hall light on, or for even better piece of mind, get an alarm for your house.

Watching the movie "The Sixth Sense" doesn't count as being a shrink 😉 However, just do a quick inspection of the house before you go to bed. Make sure lights are off, doors are locked. Buy a nightlight for some of the rooms. Leave a TV on and set it to sleep after an hour or so and go to sleep watching a movie or something. Have a  or :wine: before bed maybe? Good luck!

The alarm is a good idea, but I don't want to bring attention to myself.

Buy a gun... or ten. Make sure to mix it up, a few pistols, a rifle or two, a good shotgun. Put at least one in every room of the house. Board up the windows. Set up fishing line tripwires at strategic points in your house. Set up security cameras, some with night vision or IR lenses. Collect medieval weapons and hang them on various walls. Nothing like a good heavily spiked mace to strike fear in the hearts of your burglars! And buy a big, police-sized maglight. 😀
