I still don't know why so many people (I read some of it here) support the idea of substantial aggression against Iran, knowing what the Iraq debacle has turned into, but I guess they must be watching a lot of Faux news.

1. Petrodollar hegemony.

2. Securing of energy.

Given that the originally stated reasons for the Iraq war, were not accurate, and the reasons thus far given by proponents for an Iran war, also relies on fear as a primary motivator, the 2 speculative reasons listed above, do not seem entirely implausible. *adjust tinfoil beanie*

Those who primarily watch Fox News are significantly more likely to have misperceptions, while those who primarily listen to NPR or watch PBS are significantly less likely.

To be fair, I do not believe there are many members here who want a war with Iran. I can only think of two or three who have said as much.

We can deal with Iran 100 other ways... war with them is the last damn thing we should want, because I guarantee that an all-out war with Iran would inflame the entire Middle East and Central Asia... things would get ugggg-lee!

I do not WANT a war with Iran, but conservatives do appear to be the only ones who are willing to act to stop them from having nuclear weapons from their nuclear program. The only room for argument about their nuclear program is their intention, but I consider that crystal clear after they accepted Dr.Khan?s nuclear WEAPONS assistance. Libya and North Korea received the same deal - both for nuclear weapons.

Conservatives are also apparently the only ones who care about Iran's acts of war against us in Iraq and Afghanistan. Those differences clearly determine the difference in whether we believe we must act or not.

I will not apologize for not wanting to join you in permitting a nuclear weapon in every pot in the hands of the people who have sworn to kill us, who carry out acts of war against us, and who sponsor and control/consist of multiple terrorist organizations by which they wage war.

Then can we assume their intention is the same as North Korea's, which is to do absolutely nothing but secure their sovereignty? That's what I always assumed they wanted nukes for. With the US on an anti-terror rampage looking to lash out at anything with its military, frustrated at the realities of the enemy (and their relative invulnerability to conventional militaries), if I was Iran I'd want nukes absolutely as soon as possible to secure my borders.

Actually I grew up entirely in the city (Highland Park, TX. It's entirely surrounded by Dallas.) Went to UT Austin for college, UT Dallas for masters (where I now lecture several times a semester) and now live in the suburbs between Dallas and Fort Worth.

So I'm pretty far from a redneck from the hills. Oh, and since you don't venture into OT much, you don't know that I used to be one of the most vocal gay members of ATOT.
