Hi guys,
I need a parallel port in my computer to use a parallel port interface donggle which is then connected to a helicopter remote control. I have a Dell Dimension machine and it has got no parallel port in it. So I purchased a usb to parallel port convertor cable and hooked up the whole system. Unfortunately the software in the computer took forever to detect the donggle. Alternatively, I purchased a PCI slot in card with a parallel port and fit into my mobo. I managed to install the driver for the pci slot in card since Windows XP didnt have the driver. Things looks fine but however, I am still faced with the same problem, the computer could not detect the donggle. I have throughly checked and there is basically no hardware conflict or whatsoever. So I removed the slot in card from my mobo and then inserted it on PCI slot 2 and the same thing again. I called up Dell and they mentioned that the card is not compatible with the mobo and they recommended me to try out another slot in card of different make. However, I feel that it is not about the compatibility. If it is because of compatibility, at least the convertor cable should have functioned and there should have been some sort of error or conflict in the system. To ensure that there is no problem with the donggle, I tried to connect my old Epson parallel port printer to the computer. Same thing, the computer didnt detect the printer. Now, that I have spent quite some amount of money on those non-returnable convertor cable and the PCI sot in card, I would like to know if there is any working solution for this problem.
