What is the best way to parallel park? After lining up with the car in front of the spot, and turning the wheel towards the curb as you go in reverse, at what point do you stop and start turning in the other direction? I can never get it exactly right, any tricks?

Thanks

I find it easiest to line up, then pull back until you (1) hit the curb, (2) are straight in the parking spot or (3) are so close to the car behind you that you can't go back any more.

I can't really think of how to describe how to parallel park. The best way would be to go to a parking lot or something of that nature where the parking spaces parallel to the curb/street are marked, and find one that doesn't have cars parked adjacent to it, and just try to parallel park within the lines. Practice makes perfect.

I just did a search and found this site, however...looks pretty good to me, but I didn't read very much:

I find the key is to line up your car with the front car... (your rear wheel should be side by side the other car's rear wheel), then cut your steering wheel hard so that you get a good angle as you're backing in.

I live in a small town, so I never had to parallel park until I visited a friend in Boston.

Quickly learned that the key is not to think about it too much. Just picture what you're supposed to do and what your wheels should be doing, and then do it.

I've been driving for 20 years and the only time I've ever had to parallel park was practicing for and taking my driving test. Since that time there's never been a need. I've only rarely found an open parking spot on the street, and every time the spot has been on the end of the line so I could just pull or back in. There's always more spots in the lots, anyways.

I suppose I should practice some time just to make sure I can still parallel park.

Yeah, I am taking my driving test on Friday and need to get a bit better at parallel parking between now and then. Around here, in the Suburb's, you never need to parallel park but for some reason they still find it neccessary to test everyone on parallel parking. Oh well, it'll change someday.
