Parallel Parking

deftron

Lifer
I have to almost every day...

I can get in pretty tight, about 10 inch buffer between cars minimum.
Don't try less cause I don't want people to feel stuck in front or behind me
and smack my bumper getting out.

Anyways, I always see people jacking up huge spaces. Cutting the wrong angle, etc
and blocking the street for like 5 minutes while they keep trying
before eventually ginving up.

Yes some people definatley suck at parrallel parking. I'm pretty good at it, but i usually over compensate for the space behind me and in front of me.... so usually when i think im good it turns out i had an extra foot or so to go lol.

I don't have to do it very often at all. I'm not bad at it, but I don't always end up as close to the curb as I should.

I don't have to parallal park very often anymore, but I used to be really good at parking in tight spaces with our crew cab F350 truck, and yes it had a full length bed, and a big trailer hitch on it. I could easily leave less then a foot of space on each end, and all without taking more then a minute or so.

I suck at it. I could probably count the number of times I've had to parallel park in my lifetime on my fingers.

I have to do it often living in a big city. I would say that I've honed the skill over several years so I can get into some fairly tight places.

Well i have been parallel parking for a while so, I can do it ok, about 80% of the time.

I don't claim to be perfect; but I did pass all my road tests the first time. 🙂

I have to do it at work when parking our snowplow trucks, the pickups are easy.

We try to park the double wing plow trucks where we can back them straight in
the garage, but sometimes there is stuff in the way.

What a pain with the 10 foot plow, and 2 wings on the truck.

here is a pic of a single wing, plow truck.

b4 I moved to philly, i never had to do it. now have to do it everyday. In the beginning it's pretty bad. I was the guy who blocked traffics 5 minutes while doing it 😛

You guys are pathetic. In NYC parking == parallel parking. I didn't know WTF "parallel parking" meant until I moved out of NYC and found out that it wasn't the norm elsewhere. 😀

Before we married my wife lived where there was no off-street parking. I was pretty darn good at parallel parking then. Since getting a house 10 yrs. ago my skilz have deteriorated a bit but I'm still not bad.

I absolutely suck at it...but I blame our horrible dmv system when they handed out driver licenses. notice I said handed out.

I don't know about other states, but here in Atlanta GA, they don't make parallel parking a requirement on the test...mainly because we don't have many chances for it. All we have is large parking spaces and I have no problem parking in those. So ya, I have to blame my dmv for my sucking at it...and the only reason is because I knew they didn't test for it going into the test....and I used an automatic!

My parents on the other hand, had to test with manuals and had to stop on command on a hill without rolling back!

I can parallel park with a trailer behind me 😛
But, I rarely have to parallel park... 250 parking places in the faculty parking lot at school, 75 cars. At home, I have enough room to park 50 tractor trailers. Thus, parking my car isn't an issue here either.

Probably 1-2 times a week.

With an extended cab full size truck (Chevy). And sometimes I have less than a foot in front of both bumpers.

I am great!

it's not possible to parallel park in my area... Most drivers don't understand the concept well enough not to pull up within 4 inches behind you, just as you are getting ready to park it. So here parallel parking is done driving forward 😕 you can bet it makes a mess
