Parallel or serial to usb

Hi guys,

I have a old laptop which does not have usb. I was wondering whether there is any adapter or converter which transform parallel or serial port to usb port?

If there is one..then I would highly appreciate any suggestion to get one in cheap price.

Thanks in advance

So you want to convert a USB device to use a serial port, or do you want to use a serial device on a USB port? Your post doesn't make that totally clear.

If you are looking to use a serial or parallel device on a USB port, lots of websites have adapters for that. Check out Computer Geeks.

Yes there are adapters. Unfortunately all the ones I've seen are fairly pricey. It was actually a better deal for me to buy a new printer that had USB, than to use my old printer with my new laptop that doesn't have a parallel port. Anyway, here's a link to a Serial to USB adapter. You can probably find ond for a few bucks less, but they are not cheap...

he wants to know if he can use a USB device on a laptop that doesnt have a USB port... "any adapter or converter which transform parallel or serial port to usb port"

and no, you cant turn a NON usb port into a USB port, its diferent technology, you can turn a USB port into a parallel, or serial (and only on a virtual level, not really an ACTUAL port) but you cant go the other way.

A little confusing, don't you think? If he wants to connect stuff to his laptop that doesn't have USB ports, why does he want a serial/parallel -> USB adapter? Those adapters exist, but not the other way around. I wasn't quite sure what he wanted. Maybe he wants those adapters for the USB adapter he's gonna get for his laptop? I have an old laptop w/o USB ports, and I've been looking for a cheap PCMCIA USB adapter. Voila! USB ports!
