paragraph on "how ram works"

hi for my computer networking class (10th grade)i have to write a report on how all the basic parts of a computer work. i found stuff on cpu,mobo,video etc but i cant find anything good on how ram works :/ can somone tell me in a brief paragraph how ram works ill give you a cookie =] thanks
