Why does every small business have to use this font in their logo?

A new Italian restaurant opened near me and it uses this font as their logo.
Nothing screams "My business will fail within a year" like using Papyrus font.

I remember making a birthday card on my first computer (386DX win Win4.0) and choosing that font. I was like "Cool! That font looks different than all the rest!"
I'm sure that's how all these small business owners choose it.

Maybe because, being a small business, they don't have money to have a professional design job done, and Papyrus looks sort of artsy and designed.

I like it. It's a nice font.

Papyrus serves no useful purpose in regard to typography, and is very, very overused. There are plenty of OFL fonts that cost nothing and look 1000x less cheesy than Papyrus. It's generally used because it's readily available in Office and looks "different". Comic Sans, on the other hand, gets a lot of hate but IIRC it's actually a decent font for dyslexic people.

I read that recently. Pretty interesting.

I love fonts, but it's really hard to make a complete set that looks good. Many will be /almost/ there, but have some glaring issues. I still save them in case I have the right particular need. I have about 100 installed, and hundreds extra I've downloaded over the years, but haven't installed cause I'm trying to keep my system clean. Ubuntu is an excellent font, and I use the mono variation in my terminal. It's my goto sans font when I want something very readable, but not the same old blandness that gets commonly used.

It's common knowledge that Arial is the only font suitable for business.

Arial was the only font my old boss would let us use. We had to use it everywhere for everything.

Papyrus serves no useful purpose in regard to typography,

I've been thinking about this since you wrote it(Yea, I need a hobby). What does it mean? No font serves any particular purpose other than conveying information. I've been looking through the papyrus site linked below, and I don't see anything that really pisses me off. Some of it looks great, and some of it doesn't, but I don't see anything that can't be ignored.

I guess I don't understand font snobbery. My care of fonts only goes in one direction. I note font use I particularly like, but font use I don't especially like doesn't hit the radar, barring inappropriate use of whacko, hard to read fonts.
