I've searched high and low for papst fans, and finally found an online store that stocked them..... http://www.nwccomputers.com/ Anyway, the site claims that these 80x80x25mm fans are rated at 12dBA.... I'd like to acquire a few (5), but firstly I want to know if they really are that quiet. This place is selling them at $20 a pop, so I'm a little weary of making that $100 investment. Does anyone else know of another place where I can order some Papst fans? (other sizes too!) Anyone wanna help me coax those stingy businessmen into sending me five samples for "review" purposes? =)

Check out Newark - they have a lot of papst fans (under the papst ebm brand I believe), but the mdel numbers have been changed to protect the innocent. Sorry, but I think that ~$20/fan is about the going rate for these types of fans...

To error check that 12 dBA rating - look at the air flow rating. It's not exactly Hurricane Andrew... ;)

I personally have been advocating PCP&C silencers lately, but since he asked about the Papsts... (I think that sub-20dBA is mostly about pride :D)

Just go Panaflo. They are as good as Papst, cheaper and easier to find. PCMods and CaseEtc have them in stock with good service.

Now that I look @ the specs... they aren't that good. It only pushes 19 CFM/12 DBA.

And going to Newark, their 80MM fan pushes 33 CFM @ 35 DBA.

A comparable Panaflo fan pushes over 39 CFM @ 32 DBA and is $15 cheaper.

SURVEY SAYS.........
