There where a couple older threads where some of us discussed using Paperport (or similar products) to manage all of our papers by scanning them. I've been using Paperport but always hated that they used a proprietary .MAX format, in fact we all had discussed what happens in 10 years, would the format be supported. Just got the mailer for PP9 and they've switched to PDF format for everything (that was enough to make me pay the $99 to upgrade right away).

How does Paperport compare to Omnipage 12? Any feature/performance advantages?

Ahh...nevermind. I've found out that it's from the same company. Omnipage 12 is a much more powerful beast.

Paperport is a different product from OmniPage. For most people, Paperport is much more useful because they don't do OCR (often).

I'm not sure this change is so useful. Paperport documents are just JPEG images with metadata. Acrobat has two main properties, format retention and cross-platform clients, neither of which is a problem with Paperport. Acrobat is interesting if you frequently need to do document exchange.

The main drawback of Acrobat is the standard client doesn't render documents very clearly on-screen (anti-aliasing is very noticeable). I hope that isn't going to be an issue with Paperport.
