Papercuts. They just suck.

I was arranging some notes in lecture today, and sliced myself under the fingernail on my index and middle finger.

I swore out loud, and people turned to look at me funny... embarassing, but DAMMIT it hurt.

Ever had a root canal done without anesthetic? It hurts just a wee bit more.

Getting kicked in the nuts? In health class, we were separated into guys/girls to write down advantages/disadvantages of the other sex. One of the first ones us guys wrote down for girls' advantages was not being able to be kicked in the nuts. Because yes, it does hurt that much.

Yeah, I know there are things that hurt more, but you can't say papercuts don't suck... especially under the fingernail.

Yes, accidentally using alcohol based hand cleaner a half hour later because you forgot about the paper cut. Wheee!

Papercut + penis + rubbing alcohol = more painful.

Or a severe burn injury. I've heard that severe burns are one of the most painful things to experience.

A gaboon viper doing the same. 2" fangs + venom = even less pleasant.

Yes. I had to dump alcohol on my knee earlier cause I "fell" in the front yard (tripped on tile).

Is there anything more painful? I visited a midieval torture museum in Prague a few years ago. The had on device that basically shoved a sword with little needles all over it up a victims rear. I imiagine it would hurt a bit more.

On a more personal not, I broke my right humerus in the middle of a pitch (ala Dave Dravecky) a few years ago. I can attest that the point at which my arm broke was infinitely more painful than a wee papercut.

That's not too painful. I went through that as a kid. It was more scary than painful.

If you really want to explore further this would require knowing what kind of signal the brain receives and its meaning when there is a problem. Then just scale it extremely high and make it come from everywhere. To produce this physically you would have to tear the body into pieces (Jesus wept scene from Hellraiser?). The subject still has the experience and reaction without primary physical harm but those kinds of signals certainly would not come without cost.

Basically it would be like hacking into a large complex and triggering every sensor they have to indicate a problem. What kind of nightmare would that be?

I've always figured sliding down a large set of razor blades arranged in parallel would rank as possibly the most painful thing possible. Of course, the blades would be heated to about 1000 degrees and covered in salt.

Pissing out 40 kidney stones the size of a penny, that would be pretty painful.
