paper shredder

I'm looking for a mid-range paper shredder. $50-100. Home usage mainly. Statements and credit card stuff mainly. Would like cross-shredding.

I have one that is rather junk. $25 unit. It cuts 6 lines and barely can do more then 5 sheets at a time. I'm junking it.

Some of the higher-end Royal models are pretty good. I had an HD1400MX for a long time. It had a built-in cooling fan and didn't overheat like most lower end shredders. MSRP'd be $130 or so, but I found a place running a sale on them for $90 each.

Every shredder I've ever had eventually killed itself. Usually stripping a gear when switching into reverse.

I rely on return policies and extended warranties now. It's like I'm renting 'em.

I bought one of these when it was on sale about a year ago (it was some amount under $100 I can't remember) and it's been fantastic. It's chewed up quite a bit in that time, and not just paper (credit cards, random parcel wrapping, etc.) and has never overheated on me.

The only slightly annoying thing about it is that it has a 'full' indicator which stops you from shredding and sometimes comes on when the box is nowhere near full, but it's infrequent and usually a quick few whacks against the bin will sort it out. Else, take it out and compact it a bit/get rid of it.

Pick one up if it goes on sale again.

I've got a piece of junk Rosewill shredder I bought as a DOTD for less than 20 bucks over a year ago and it's still going strong. Wasn't expecting much but got more than I expected.
