Paper Brightness?

I always thought the # was how white it is. Like 9238749823749283 is more white than 600. Be careful, though, as sometimes the ultra-whites go see through pretty quickly.

I just grab whatever is cheapest - screw the rest of the office monkies.

Brightness is basically how white it appears, a higher brightness rating media will look whiter than a lower one placed next to it.

Be careful with the really high brightness papers though, high brightness is achieved through the addition of minerals (Link) which can cause issues in some printers.

Use something within the specs of your printer.
