False. Papa Johns has always been way-too-salty crap.

I have lived all over the country. Their quality varies GREATLY on location, even moreso than other fast food chains. The ones I visited in Minnesota were fantastic. Las Vegas has a great Papa Johns that delivers to the nice hotels outside the main strip.
All my local papa johns (Manassas) serve garbage, HOWEVER, I have noticed the quality of almost all pizza here in Virginia is generally very poor, so I think it has something to do with Virginia cooks and possibly the quality of the water. I've been in way too many restaurants and bars with horrible water to ever expect high-quality food around here. It has to be affecting everything in a negative way.

The one around here wasn't too bad although it did close down like 6 years ago so thats probably not a good sign

In my experience, Papa Johns is rarely good, but usually OK. That said, the last few times have been awful, even while Little Caesar’s has been tasty. Go figure.

I never get pizza (or most other foods) from a "chain" restaurant. Local restaurants are tastier, better, and a better deal than something dictated from corporate headquarters.

Every Papa John's I've ever been to has made pizzas that are swimming in sauce. Just like a pool of overly sweet sauce. I can't eat their pizza. Ugh.

Every pizza thread has this damn post in it. No exceptions.

That is how the local Pizza Hut does their pies here, a ton of sweet sauce. Just nasty.

I don't know why they can't follow simple recipe, since, as Shorty said, the pizza quality varies greatly on where you get it, and who is making it.

I end up just making them myself, I know what I am putting in, and just freeze a couple at a time.

The best pizza I have found is the ones my wife makes at home. Expensive - yes but excellent!

Well, each chain has their own tried & true branded recipe, so if you like it or grow up with it, then that's your default. I used like Domino's, but their pizza just gives me acid reflux now lol. Used to love Pizza Hut too, but they're so oily these days...bleh. Fortunately, I found a super easy pizza recipe for replicating pan pizza...it is still my family's #1 favorite homemade pizza recipe:

Perhaps I'm snoody or something, but I'm under the impression that all delivery pizza chains are complete shit. I haven't ordered delivery pizza in years. Last time I recall we because others wanted to order it while at our house for a friends gathering.

If I want Pizza at home, I actually like this brand at my grocery store, pretty damn good http://www.screaminsicilian.com/

If I want damn good pizza while out I'll go to BJs and get a good beer with it https://www.bjsrestaurants.com/menu/pizza

I have NEVER seen any good mom and pop pizza joint ever be cheaper than a chain. Not once ever. Better and more expensive but never cheaper

In Manassas there are plenty of small, private joints, some are delivery-only.
They can be more or less expensive, and they can be better or worse. I have found its worth the effort to investigate them and find out. Usually once a week.

Having said that, the best pizza around here still is and always has been Costco. I just hate driving up there and finding a parking spot.

Everyone know Pie must be consumed on premises within 10 minutes of oven exit. All else is heresy!
