Hi -

A few months back, i broke my Canon SD900 and i'm looking to replace the camera with either a point/shoot that does 720p and decent photos or going to a 2 hardware solution. I've narrowed down the 1 camera solution to a ZS3 or a 2 part solution: Kodak Zi8 + other.

I like the ZS3 because it's 1 piece of hardware and looks fairly easy to use. My GF will be using it most of the time for kid shots and short baby movies.

My other thought is the Zi8 because of it's great video capabilities and the easy we can upload to FB/youtube for our friends and family. But this option leaves off the camera. Initially i was looking at the LX10 but it's complete lack of incamera Red Eye reduction.

What are your opinions or suggestions? I alreayd have a D40 with a 35/1.8, kits lens, 18-200mm but she wants something more bag friendly.

I'd look at demos of both on Youtube and Vimeo.

From what I could tell, the 720p stuff looked comparable. Some reviews say the 1080p on the Zi8 add quality, others say it's negligible due to sensor (and probably bitrate) limitations.

Additionally, without downloading original clips, it hard to really tell video quality differences due to flash compression and whatever additional editing method(s) the authors chose.

My ZS3 should be delivered today. It seemed like the best of both worlds to me.

Thanks! When you have chance, can ya try indoors (living roomish) on a sunny day?
