I'm using a delux a7n8x with one hard drive with RAID and its fine. 80 Gig maxtor Sata drive, hope this helps.

what did you do? split it up into differant partitions? i cant do that with a 36 gig HD🙁

You shouldn't need to partition. In fact, partitioning comes after creating the array. So tell your controller that your 36Gb drive is a one-drive RAID1 array, or whatever it wants to hear. I have an A7N8X-Deluxe but no SATA drive, or I'd have more-detailed instructions for you.

Summary: don't panic! 😀

My board is labled as RAID only as well, but I am using a single drive (well, two drives, but not in a RAID array, per se... Read on). I had to enter the FastBuild (my motherboard has a Promise SATA RAID controller) and set up a RAID array on the single drive. This seems silly and obviously isn't RAID, but once I set the "array" I was able to use the drive without a problem. I do not have a native SATA drive, I used adapters, but I can't see how that should matter.

My suggestion is to try and set up a single drive array and see if the utility allows it. If so, you are good to go, if not you might need to grab a PCI controller. Good luck! Give it a shot and let us know.

[EDIT]I don't have the Asus board. I have an MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR. Just so there is no confusion[/EDIT]

PS I will post this in both threads. I looked at your other and don't think you are necessarily SOL, give this a shot first. -\DBS

running a normal partition or raiding the partitions?

Just normal partitions. I don't have that much experience with RAID, but so far as I know there's none of it going on in my system. The drive just acts like a single drive would be expected to.
