OK, I just got back from seeing 'Panic Room' with Jodie Foster, and all in all I thought it was very good. but, a few things in it confused the hell out of me, and my friend who I went with was baffled by these things as well. So, while the movie's still fresh in my mind, can anyone who's seen the movie help me out perhaps?

(1) Considering that the cameras had no sound, and were a good distance from her, etc, when the cop came to the door, why didn't she just explain what was going on to him, including why he had to go away and act like she said nothing? Especially when given that golden oppertunity to blink her eyes, why didn't she?

(2) Because she didn't say or do anything in that situation in question 1, how did the cops know to come at the end?

(3) Was I supposed to realize something at the end? They showed several things going on, like the black guy getting arrested, etc, the cops raiding the house and all, and they played that high shrill music and kept zoning in on Jodie Foster's face, which had a look as though the pieces of the puzzle were coming together. It grew and grew and grew, then went to black....my friend and I just shrugged at each other.

I hope someone can help me out with these, the movie was great except for these things...

Beats me, probably to let the movie go on another 35 minutes :D

What I don?t get s they were yelling to the neighbor through a wall, and half an hour later they were looking straight across a courtyard to someone?s bedroom with NO other house touching theirs on that side.

<< I think she DID signal to the cops...... >>

I don't think so...I didn't see it and neither did the guy I was with.

On another note, I was just looking through info on the web about this movie, out of sheer boredom, and this one page had little actor bios in it....Kristen Stewart (the daughter), who I think did quite an admirable job, according to this bio she's only eleven years old! Wow...that's quite the part for an eleven year old, I'm surprised someone that young pulled that off, especially the diabetes scene(s).

I didn't see it and I was looking really damn closely for it to happen.

As for the end... *shrugs* I was expecting something big to happen as well. They may
have run out of time in post-production for this film towards the end becuase Panic Room
had the plainest closing credits I have ever seen for a David Fincher film - that simply
isn't his style at all. His credits are always heavily stylized - just like they were in the
opening with the buildings and text.

Regardless, I really liked the film and thought it was far, far better than Blade II.

You guys need to pay better attention to movies.
The cop asked her if there was something she couldnt tell them but if there is something wrong make a signal like blinking your eyes. She paused then complimented them on thier job while winking about 5 times. The officers coworker (damn what that noun) noticed that and became focused. They left and notified the swat team. blah blah blah

The black guy was the same on who was in Good Morning Vietnam. He is a producer now as well as an actor, I SAW him interviewed recently, he's real funny.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I still didn't see the winking at the end.

<< I think the black guy called at the end. >>

What makes you say that?

ok, I HATED that movie. It wasn't suspenseful AT ALL (more comedic), left questions unanswered (why the money was there in the first place? and why did Forest Whitaker (the black guy) really need the money? yeah, they said he had a family and blah blah so they can make him look like a good guy, but that's just stupid), boring scenes (the ending), and the ending was just lame. There wasn't even a twist!

ok, sorry for the rant....here are the answers for you people:

<< (1) Considering that the cameras had no sound, and were a good distance from her, etc, when the cop came to the door, why didn't she just explain what was going on to him, including why he had to go away and act like she said nothing? If she told them, the bad guys would know and then kill the daugther they had as hostage.

<< (2) Because she didn't say or do anything in that situation in question 1, how did the cops know to come at the end? >>

The husband, Steven, called the cops.

<< (3) Was I supposed to realize something at the end? This is why the movie sucked. Nothing tied together. Just a bunch of people breaking in and dying/getting arrested. "Let's just show the audience Jodie and the kid looking for new apartments!" What a bunch of lame writers.

But they couldn't hear or see what she was saying. She could have told them in a calm manner, or blinked, or whatever, and they wouldn't have known.

No no, the second time, when they came at the end.

Better to be safe than sorry I guess. Tough call could have gone either way.

They probably had their eye on the house for a little while and all the gun shots made them call backup.

Yeah, that was kinda awkward. I was expecting to see if the father made it out alright. I can't believe that guy that took a sledgehammer to the side of his head and fell down a flight of stairs didn't die right there or at least suffered severe brain damage. She really cracked him. Another thing is Jodi Foster was a sub, the role was actually Nicole Kidman's until she broke her leg or something like that.

man, i really don't like the extra spaces AT's quote feature uses....anyway,

<< But they couldn't hear or see what she was saying. She could have told them in a calm manner, or blinked, or whatever, and they wouldn't have known.>>
That's true, she COULD have, but it wouldn't matter even if she did, cuz the police still couldn't come in at all, cuz they can't get into the "unbreakable" panic room...telling them would have made things more complicated, and eventually lead to the death of the kid...but you're right...she could have...and that's why the movie sucked...

<< <<The husband, Steven, called the cops. >> >>

I dont' remember the movie too well, but I think this is what happened:
1. Foster calls 911
2. Foster gets cut off
3. 911 realizes it and sends the two cops over
4. She doesn't blink
5. Cops leave
6. SWAT team enters
7. Foster asks husband "You called the Police?"
8. Husband says "Of course I did. I was scared."

If that's right, then I'm right :)

Panic Room was a terrific film...

That said, remember this is Hollywood. Ideally, one would think that in such a structure -- being fireproof, etc. -- and with so many essential supplies on hand -- that food and the like would have been there. One would also realize that some form of wireless communication would be available -- not a second landline :) -- and that it would receive a signal :D

There was food and stuff, just not anything with sugar. Remember, the women didn't stock the
panic room, the dead old guy did.

My problem with the movie? Too predictable.
I knew there would be money in the panic room right after they said "...missing inheritance..." at the beginning.
The orange juice and insulin in the mini fridge was a dead giveaway to later events too.

But still pretty good nonetheless.

My favorite part? If anyone watches the movie again look closely at the surroundings, especially when the camera moves.. it's all CGI - for example the coffee maker, doors, railings, etc.. the camera impossibly passes through all these. I found that really cool.

I may be wrong but I think she kept quiet to the cops because she already had her own plan for the crooks.

She set up her husband with the gun and broke those cameras. I think she thought she had a better chance of dealing with them herself than the cops did.

That movie sucked it hardcore. The previews (commercials on tv) led it be all scary n stuff. Like they were hiding from a murderer or something. Anyways, that crap was waaaaaaaay too predictable. Like when they grabbed the propane tank. You knew one of those dudes was gonna get their ass blown up...or in this case, his face. Also, when Jody Foster stuck her arm in the vent to light the propane, her arm wouldve friggen blown clear off her body, (not really) or at least been REALLY FUUCKED UP. She didnt even have a burn....

And yeah, I like how the black guy was supposed to know everything about the room, why didnt he think to mess with that airhole at the bottom of the room where they were breathing? Also, what exactly would these boys have done with $22M in bonds? (were those bonds? not sure..) Either way, they would have to file all sorts of IRS shyt to cash those badboys, or even deposit them. And when Jody Foster busted the white guy in the head with the sledge hammer...that wouldve killed him. His head woulda been bashed in like a bowling ball hit him or something. No way in hell would his skull hold up to a 30lb sledge hammer swinging in with all that force.

ugggh, that movie was a dissappointment. people kept yelling at me and my friends cuz we were laughing thru it...Ahh well, I guess ya gotta be smarter than the average bear...

EDIT: NO, SHE DIDNT WINK AT ALL. At the end, the husband said he had called, along with the dude accross the way who saw the flashlight flickering. So apparently it took time for the cops to put 2 and 2 together..
