Panic brake, now I hear things.

Ok, 2012 Cube, 12.5k miles, I've had it since June. My first import.

Small panic brake, was under 25mph, didn't come to a complete stop (avoiding a cat that darted across the street).

Now if I'm in Park and press the brake pedal, I can hear what sounds like a reverse lockout mechanism throw, making it possible to shift out of Park.

Also, there seems to be a noise in the brake pedal linkage. If I just slide my foot off the pedal and let the pedal return under it's own power, it makes a mechanical noise right when it returns to it's resting position.

I know this thing is a tin can (the roof puffs up when you close the door), but I find it hard to believe I could press the pedal hard enough to bend something.

Any thoughts?

After driving around the rest of the day, I'm beginning to think I was just being hyper-sensitive to car sounds after the panic stop. Everything works, it tracks straight, doesn't pull to either side when braking. I'll keep an eye, and an ear, on it for now.

I did bend a pedal panic braking once. Of course I also slammed in to another car at the same time. I wish I knew what happened, but I stupidly didn't have a seat belt on for a short 1/3 mile trip, the airbag didn't deploy, and I concussed myself on the windshield leaving me with no memory of the event. That was a bad day... I never go anywhere without a seatbelt now.
