Wasn't Ole Dirty Bastard collecting welfare in the early 90s ? I remember him pulling up to the welfare office in a limo. You can watch the video on YouTube.

I made the mistake of giving cash to a panhandler who bursted into tears and claimed to be a 'veteran thrown out in the streets' and needs money to feed his family. I saw him walk out of a liquor store minutes later lighting a cigarette and a brown bag with a bottle inside it. Will never give out ones again and will not give them food since getting food poison is their ticket to sue you. I will however buy them a meal if they approach me when I'm near a restaurant.
I've had a bum return the chips someone gave them and bought a 40 with the money they got back. That's not even close to the ridiculousness I see everyday with foodstamps. That whole system needs to be overhauled.

Well, she's just trying to make a seven figure income and get that rental property, so she can finally pass the ATOT sign-up vetting process. Can't blame her.
Except for not driving an M3.

M3 FTMFW!

Hard Copy or whatever it was back in the 90's did a story on the guy at some major airport handing out blind/deaf cards for money when he could totally see and hear.

He was reporting about $60k a year at the time all from this income.

There have been other stories of panhandlers making pretty decent coin.

Around here a good corner can supposedly yield about $150-200 per day.

finding jobs and work is easy. i see tons of illegals standing outside of the home depot by my house to find a day job. i don't see them standing on street corners begging for money.

That's how you know they're not culturally integrated.

I have an uncle who has a long beard and dresses kind of like a bum per say. He walked into the beer stored with empties and picked up a 6 pack to purchase. A guy walked up behind him and said put it on my tab, he also asked my uncle if he needed any money because he understood how hard it is. Apparently the man told my uncle he went through the same struggle. He purchased the six pack for him and at that point my uncle dipped really fast, hopped into his jaguar and drove off before the guy saw what just happened.

I dont hand cash out to beggers. At the VFW we do plenty to help people in genuine need. If someone is really hurting they should be going to some sort of organization or charity. Hoping you will survive on randoms handouts from the street is dangerously foolish.

And then of course theres the chance people will be scamming.

I've never hired those dudes but I thought they got more like $80-$100.

Some may...the people I know that have used them have been like "I have $100, I need 2-3 guys to weed or lay sod" or whatever. If they do a good job they usually will throw them some more money.

Personally I have not used them.

i never give money to pan handlers nor do i plan to. they can go get a fucking job if they need money. i don't have sympathy really for people who have pissed their life away to get in a position where they have to resort to being a lazy person who has to beg for money because they don't feel like working for it.

I used to think the same way you do, then I talked with some veterans who are panhandling and some of them have very sad stories. None of those guys I've spoken with are on the streets anymore thanks to help.

Most of the guys panhandling chronically either do it as a job or have severe mental illnesses that prevent them from holding jobs. Those that do it because they're down on their luck don't typically stay panhandling for very long.

If you see the same familiar face they're professional pan handlers or very sick individuals. You still don't give them money, a real man down on his luck would be happy with food and drinks. If they just want money they're either doing drugs or it's their 9-5 job.

Back in 1983 my HS friends and I followed this Vietnam "Vet" that we would see for years at the train station in LES. We followed him home to his 2 story 2 car garage house in LIC. Since then I never ever give money to beggars.

A few years later when I started my career on park avenue I would see this woman and her little baby at the exit of the train station. I worked there for 10 years and saw this baby grow from an infant into a 10 year old kid still at the station with his mother. Was really sad to see but I still never gave money. I will, on occasion, give food but never money or smokes. I used to cook tons of food for the shanty town under the FDR on thanksgiving day but that was dismantled long ago.

I recently saw people holding a cardboard sign saying something to the effect of "recently homeless, don't give us money, give to your local homeless shelter, thanks for your support".

That spot is usually reserved for people panhandling.

The one time I gave cash to a homeless person:
I was walking in Dallas at night and got lost. This guy comes up to me and says "Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you!" He asks for help, the shelter was full and it was a cold night. I told him that if he helped me find my way back to where I was staying I'd give him some money and buy him some food. He walked with me for 45 minutes or so, leading me exactly where I needed to go. We had a very pleasant conversation the whole time. When I got to my destination I bought him a huge plate of food and gave him what cash I had. He was really grateful that I'd helped and treated him with dignity.

But screw panhandlers. They suck.

My wife was on the board of the local shelter and she would just hand out cards to the panhandlers. If they were legit they'd take them and be thankful, if they were scammers it was easy to tell by their reactions.

i'm going to disagree with you considering i've been making money since i was about 10, starting with baby sitting and raking leaves, cutting grass, etc, and then when i turned 14 i got a job at a supermarket easily because i wanted to buy an n64. i have been employeed since i was 14 and am now 32.

finding jobs and work is easy. i see tons of illegals standing outside of the home depot by my house to find a day job. i don't see them standing on street corners begging for money.

they are willing to work for half minimum wage which is also a crime.
Nobody ever looks to a white or black american when they want to get away with labor crimes. They dig up illegal aliens.

Not sure how you are allowed to panhandle for less than minimum wage. Shouldn't there be a tolling system that panhandlers can use in order to ensure at least minimum wage and health benefits?!!!!
