Wow. VERY interesting indeed. It basically showcases various anti nuclear activists change their minds and supporting it now as well as talking with some scientists about the tech stuff surrounding it all. It was interesting to learn that wind and solar actually increase the use of natural gas etc since it can't be on all the time. And that their are more deaths from solar power than nuclear power. The bit about how a cell phone actual causes the same amount of power consumption as a refrigerator was neat. Anyhow just thought I'd give you all a heads up on this if you wanna watch it.

there are various problems with anything.

the problem with nuclear power is that if it goes wrong it fucks up an entire ecosystem.

also renewable is worth the investment.

we need to start spending more on thorium and generation 3 nuclear power

disappoint

Cell phones by themselves don't consume more power than a typical home refrigerator. They must be including the cell phone towers. If you don't include that little tidbit people might get the wrong idea.

the biggest irony is that environmental activists keep new plants with safer designs from opening, while 50-year-old plants stay open with 25-year renewal licenses from the NRC.

if an old plant is shown to be safe, that's fine, but still, why the hell would you stop construction of a safer power generator?

Fossil fuels can do that too. Their effects just tend to take longer to manifest.

(Oil spills can also mess things up in a damn hurry.)

Well the problem with fossil fuels is they fuck up ALL the ecosystems BY DESIGN.

Nukes naturally create somewhere around 1/1000000 the amount of waste fossil fuels do.

May want to keep that in mind.

And if only we (in the US) could reprocess the "spent" fuel to get more out of it.

One person's lifetime energy requirements would generate a fairly small lump of waste.

Some of those next-gen reactors sound fun, especially the ones that could use up today's spent fuel.
"How do we get rid of this relatively small amount of nuclear waste that we've produced? Let's build a better reactor that can turn it into a very tiny amount of waste, and produce a hell of a lot of power in the process!"

Yes, in order to function as intended a cell phone needs servers, and towers etc so in actuality in requires a lot more power than we think. Kind of disheartening really. But just reality.

One part confirmed what I believed all along that environmentalists are so rabid about this (and other things) they do not care what the actual facts are and will spew and scream bs to get people to believe what they want.
Another part was kinda funny/ironic even, showing protesters passing out bananas at a rally to shutdown some plant. One banana has more radiation in it via the potassium than all of the coolant water that is let out of that same plant in a whole day.

of course they do

was not saying fossil fuels are better than nuclear power.

my preference is for nuclear power with renewables.

do any other fossil fuel plants even come close to coal as far as environmental effects and such? the mercury and radiation from coal amkes it far worse than just greenhouse gases
