Panda antivirus / Word 2003 question

Whenever I run Word 2003, it says in the bottom left "running virus scan". What kind of virus scan is this? I have Panda AV Platinum 7.0 installed. Does it scan Word while it's starting or is it some other virus scanner? I am asking this because it kinda slows it down. Is there an option to disable this in either Panda or Word?

I think it's just using Panda. It's probably scanning for any malicious scripts. I'd leave it on.
