was reading about this in Popular Photography - panasonic went with a wider 24mm lens, instead of bumping up the MP they maintained 10.1 and did things to reduce noise such as larger photodiodes and better power management.
from the looks of what they went for, they seem to be catering for the dslr crowd that wants the manual features but pocketable with respectable noise performance.
