My FZ1v2 (2.1 MP) is wonderful.
I'd only assume an extra MP would only make it MORE wonderful. This camera is way more than a "point-n-shoot"... if you just want a camera to take pics of Xmas morning, then this cam is not for you. If you want a camera to take while hiking or to your kids soccer game -- then put this camera near the top of your list.

For those interested in a camera with long zoom, I STRONGLY recommend a camera with Image Stabilization, like the Panasonic FZ series. As a convincer, go to a camera store and just _try_ to zoom out past 6-8x without Image Stabilization -- that's what did it for me. It's nearly impossible without a tri-pod.
Plus, the lens on this thing is top-of-the-line.
Also, for the newbies: completely ignore specs that say "total zoom" or "digital zoom" -- focus only on the spec for "optical zoom" -- that's what counts.

The only downsides to this camera are: 1) proprietary batteries (~$30 at amazon), 2) the supplied 8MB SD card (wow, enough for a whole 6 pics!, but on the otherhand there's plenty of SD deals floating around)

a good site to see peoples opinions is: http://www.dpreview.com/ -- look under "forums --> panasonic talk"

Good deal on a great camera...

I can't decide on the Panasonic FZ3 or the Canon S1. They both have image stabilization, Panasonic has a 12x zoom, Canon has 10x, thing I like is that the Canon takes standard AA batteries...

I was faced with the same decision a couple months ago, and I went with the FZ3. The Canon is a very good camera, with a superior movie mode, but what can I say, I'm a sucker for Leica lens. Plus I preferred the shape and UI of the panasonic over the S1. I cannot be more happy with my FZ3, but in all fairness, you could not go wrong with either of the two.
