This is a great printer. I bought one when they were in the clearance section, used a $30/150 and got it for $151 shipped. At the 600 dpi setting, the text print quality is nearly indistinguishable from the newer HP's and NEC's. The toner costs 1/4 to 1/3 the cost of other monochrome lasers, but I've noticed it's getting harder to find them (probably discontinued). So stock up if you get this printer.

BTW, you can use a non-EDO 72-pin SIMM to upgrade the memory to 4.5MB. The one sold by Panasonic (claimed as being 'proprietary') is around $300.

Looks like a pretty good deal for personal use...but definitely not for long term use

Actually Windows 2000 has a built in driver for this printer. Not a bad deal at all.

just bought one. it's a pretty good deal, even if other places are only selling it for 10 bucks more (check pricegrabber).

---edit
it has laserjet emulation, so it should work in linux. (any tried?) also, anyone know of a good place to 1)stock up on toner / supplies and 2)get a 4mb stick of edo ram?

The description on pricegrabber says this:
KX-P6500 6PPM 600DPI LASER PAR HP-PCL4 512K 1200 DPI CLASS

"PCL4" usually means it's compatible with Linux.

'Good to see the previous post that it uses std 72 pin EDO Simms since it only comes with 512K. Is 4.5 MB really the upper limit ?

Correction on that...it uses a fast-page mode SIMM, not EDO. I believe 4.5MB is the upper limit on it, I haven't tried putting anything higher. It still works fine with 512K (just takes longer to print .pdf files etc.).
