Not too bad of a deal, especially for a B&M store. On-line prices look to be $198, too bad I already bought a DVD player. :(

A little tip for Sears Customers: they will price match, sometimes even with internet stores. It all depends on the sales clerk and/or their manager.

You are right, this player got much better reviews than Samsung 711 I was going to get for $180.
10% off and $50 rebate for panasonic makes this deal even better.
The only one minus is 90 days warranty on labor, samsung has 1year labor.

i just received this dvd player as a gift from someone...
i was wondering,... could i somehow make this thing to play cd-r's an cdrw's?
and also on the region hacking...

is there a good website that explains them both? i'd greatly appreciate any help.

thanx

I don't think that it is region hackable, unless you know how to mess with firmware. And I believe it CANNOT play CDR or CDRWs.

I bought this for $90 when 800.com had the DVD sale going. Now for $90, that is a steal!

Warm at best

The Toshiba 1600 will stomp this player to PIECES, and it's like 149 after rebate
DTS compatible and will play anything u throw at it. I'm watchin a flick
on my Sony KLW-9000 Computer Monitor as I type.

Doggett - Unfortunately I don't see a $20 rebate listed on the Toshiba Special Offers page. Hopefully Ark will reply with where this rebate can be found. Toshiba makes a great DVD Player.

My roommate purchased the Toshiba SD1200 for $159 with free shipping from Accompany.com in summer 2000 and it came with 5 free DVD movies.

Makes me wish I had purchased one also.

Actually I am a little disappointed in all the current deals, which are about $50 higher than the deals going around before christmas. It irks me to have "just missed" all the really good deals, ie local (SoCal) Stater Bros markets blew out the Toshiba 1600 for $99.

Second point that irks me on current high prices is that its the lull before they get dumped in a couple months as the new models show up.

The best deal I see right now is Circuit City B&M stores on the Apex DVD players (plays everything including VCD's ie movies I burn to CDR) for about $140.

Toshiba rebate mentioned 2 days ago is here.
Just go to toshiba site and use search!

Apex 703 is really good, but does not have digital optical output.
Just saw it last night at Circuit City for $180. my friend has one and he likes it.
