You would be hard pressed to find another name brand TV with the features and quality of this unit. TV has been selling for $1799 for a couple of weeks, this is lower than what it will be on BF!

As an edit, I do practice what I preach. I bought one last night, and this thing is amazing. I watched Star Wars Ep3 and Sahara and couldn't stop smiling. Looking forward to watching football in HiDef in about an hour.

so then exactly what is your point? Are you even insinuating the Panasonic is "cheap quality"? Do some research, then get back to me.

I think he was referring to the title of your thread.

BestBuy has it priced at $1,999 while Circuit City has it priced at $2,099 (before $800 off), I think thats where the price match comes in.

BB should honor the $1299 price according to their store price match policy. Instant rebates are counted in the calculation. Did I misinterpret this?

From the BB website:

How do you handle a price match if the Competitor's price includes a rebate, gift card or other promotional offer?
The competitor's purchase price is calculated by deducting instant discounts taken at the register such as instant rebates. Mail-in rebates and other deferred savings are not deducted from the competitor's purchase price.

dlp-uses a microchip with 1 million+ mirrors reflecting light thru a color wheel. depending the angle of the mirror, depends the shade etc. dlp technology is crisp and vibrant, and exceeds any contrast ratio u will find on a lcd currently. mirrors r known to get stuck and create either a white or black stuck "pixel" on your screen, it is noticable and is easily fixed sometimes(a tech can come and check the chipset and send current to possibly get it moving again).

lcd-uses an lcd chip, then sends it thru a color array of mirrors, then magnifies it at the end of the process to give you your color's. while this is similar to dlp, the design in the crystal sets tends to not be as bright and vibrant as a dlp. dead pixels r known to show up, but sadly in a lcd you won't find this till later down the road. till a group of them r dead, vs a few here and there.

both techonolgies r great, and if i could do it again, i would go with a dlp(vs the 50 inch sony lcd a have), but this panasonic for 1299 is a steal. :p i would be willing to give up a small difference in contrast, for such a great price. :)

Great price for sure, however I have heard that you will very lucky to get 2 years out of the $300 projection lamp. The $400 extended warranty would probably be wise. FWIW, I just came back from CC about a 1/2 ago and while that set looks and sounds great, I left empty handed.

both DLP and LCD will cost you bulbs down the road, they are consumable items that will burn out, and are covered by extended warranty if you choose to go down that route. As stated above, DLP has better contrast, but has the tendancy for some people to see a rainbow effect, as the color wheel spins at an imperceptible rate for some people, others can see it, hence the rainbow effect. You only know if you look at one, its not a defect, just the technology. It is always there, its just whether you can see it or not.

An LCD does not have the contrast that a DLP does, but the reliability is slightly better from what I have read. Both are good technologies, but you can't touch a DLP for this price, so it's a no brainer unless you want to go to the $2000 mark.

My parents just got this set at CC tonight. The extended warranty gives you 1 bulb replacement (original lamp replaced only). The salesman there wouldn't budge on the price saying they're already losing $350 on the set. He wouldn't accept the Best Buy 10% off coupon either. Rather than play a game of "customer fulfillment" at Best Buy, waiting a month to get the set, and having to pricematch, they just decided to get it tonight from CC at an already outstanding price.

$399 for 4 years. I figure one bulb replacement puts it at $99 out of pocket for 4 years of coverage.
