Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV (TH-42PX60U)

My brother claims that since the px60u has a resolution of 1024 x 768(4:3) and that the incoming 720p(16:9) signal is not to scale, the image is degraded. Is that true? If it is, does it affect picture quality that much or even at all?

I don't own one, nor have I seen it in person so I cannot comment. However judging from other comments I would say it isn't noticable at typical viewing distances.
